Atoms for Peace slow it down

Well, actually just Thom Yorke solo with a Piano.  Had to post this beautiful version of Ingenue performed on the Jonathan Ross Show over the weekend.

Elevated Mix

New MGMT?  You bet.  This year keeps getting better, and better.  Read the comments, mostly positive for this new direction for the band.  You'll see a lot of people think it reminds them of Bowie.  I hear Sgt. Pepper.  It's a fresh sound though.  A song that gets better from start to beginning.  Get lost.  New LP will be here in June.

Another good track here. Reminds us a lot of Fiest. Aussies The Preatures bring you their lead single "Is This How You Feel". Dance around the apartment naked. We won't tell.
Still Corners have an LP coming out on Sub Pop next month. They are also going out on a tour with CHRVCHES. Life is looking up.

Curiously Strong Covers Mix

Putting yourself out there.  It's easy to do nowadays.  YouTube puts you face to face with potentially millions.  Sound Cloud has a growing number of people putting up their demos.  Searching through hundreds I give you here the best.

I had to search long, far, and wide for a good Portishead cover. Beth's songs are so hard to nail, but damn if  Lehcar Thevoid doesn't come close. This is a beautiful version of Roads that only gets better as the song goes on. From right here in Brooklyn, Eric Chan gives us a mashed version of the Cranberries with Eagle Eye Cherry. Love the double tracked vocals. Well done Eric. What captured me first is brittmesi pretty awesome photo. She does a decent rough piano cover of Bat for Lashes Laura. Again props to her for tackling this tough song. ...And then we find the reason we sifted through hours of these. thatPoppy not only does amazing covers, she does them on a professional buzz worthy level. Something tells me she's going to make future mixes as well. Some guy going by the name "Danz Cheng Shih Ee" from Malaysia gives a pretty damn beautiful cover of Coldplay. What Leila Rosales misses in guitar playing. (It's slightly out of tune)  She makes up for it in singing. There are quite a few high parts here, and she nails them pretty well for a bedroom recording. Someone famous makes the covers mix. Phoenix does their own take on Air's Playground Love. Nice to hear someone on a professional level tackle a song acoustically to compare. Sometimes it doesn't work. Here is an example when everything doesn't work(on any level). Gabe Faulk I'm sad to say you have "no hope, and no future".

It Feels Like the end of the road

we can never finish what we started...
the power in those moments remains

First up is another track that is blowing up our computer playlists. The feeling here sums up the mood lately. "Can't un-dream a year, so taylor your expectations" I feel you my brother. the Strokes new album Comedown Machine has had a while to digest. The consensus is we have a winner. These are a little bit of growers, but the songs are there. Tracks like "Tap Out", "Welcome to Japan", "Chances", and "One Way Trigger" will have us coming back for repeated listens. Maybe for different reasons than in the past. There is a groove here, a more subtle way to rock, and still the great one liners like "What kind of asshole drives a Lotus" that make this the album a success. "You know you found your name in lights" Brooklyn's Little Daylight gives us the perfect come down to this mini set. Pure soothing bliss is coming our of our speakers here. How 'bout yours?

Video: Kevin Ware's Horrific Injury

Thoughts and prayers go out to Kevin, and his family tonight.  This is the most brutal basketball
injury we have ever seen.  Tonight in the game between Duke, and Louisville the injury occurred in
the 1st half, and brought the game to a standstill for 9 minutes.  Players, coaches, and fans were in tears.

We thought we'd seen it all when Shaun Livingston went down a few years back.  This injury
tonight sadly tops even that one.

7 Year Bitch back together?

7 Year Bitch back together?

Well, at least for one night.  They were in Seattle for the opening of a new "grunge" musical called

These Streets.

These rockers were amazing live, and part of Seattle's amazing 90's music scene, and later San Francisco's.   They disbanded in 1997 while recording their 3rd as yet unreleased record.

It's great they are back together, and on friendly terms again.  It would be amazing

to see them lace up the old boots, and play a few shows.

Cheer Up Brooklyn

Atlas Genius radio friendly slick sounding almost to a nausiating level.
This is better than most of the stuff of mainstream radio though.  We can only wish
these guys were the worst it got.  The song is still worth adding to that spring party mix.
Album When it was Now available on Itunes.

This is the kind of song I thought this generation was missing out on. Sounds a little like Weezer, or some other 90's rock band. Even the lyrics are straight out of that generation. "Holding a gun to my head, so send me an angel" This song is quite catchy, and should find it's way into some strange places on the radio. PM for details. Wavves new album Afraid of Heights is out March 26th
"Where do you go when you're walking in the Eden"? I wish here. What an uplifting piano led track. Great female fronted vocals.
