More Concretes

Although the new Concretes album In Colour is already one of the biggest disappointments of the year. We have managed to find another track that doesn't make us physically ill. The band's dull performance at CMJ last year should have been a sign. A sign of poor things to come.

Mylo - Destroy Rock n' Roll

Mylo - Destroy Rock n' Roll

You are about 30 years too late Mylo, but the title still is enjoyable. Mylo looks like a porn star and creates music to fuck to. His songs are happy and chill like AIR or Stereolab. This CD is one of few currently in the genre that will actually make you come back for more. More and more. Give it to us Mylo.

Portishead Myspace and Video

Portishead are recording their new album as we speak. The band has set up a myspace page here with new songs from the studio. We found this live video of "Glory Box", and it reminded us how great Portishead still is. Recently one of the band members posted this update on their myspace page "still working on the tunes , it seems that were getting into it more now..only time will tell. ade has been working with beth this week at his house [ where we have done most of the writing so far. ive been laid up in bed with some stinking virus...and my little girls got it too. looking forward to next week feeling normal again [well as normal as i ever feel!!] anyway back to bed".

Man Man - Demon Bag

Man Man - Demon Bag - Ace Fu

When Pitchfork rates an album above 8 we usually prepare for the worst. This record turned out to be a surprise, because Pitchfork actually got it right.
"What a backward sophomore record. You'd think after all the Zappa/Waits/Beefheart darts thrown his way after the band's 2004 debut, lead singer Honus Honus would cut the gravel shtick-- the stache, too. Instead, he seems to have bought all three's entire discographies over again, zeroing in on Waits' freak empathy, Zappa's klezmatics and turnarounds, the Captain's sense of surprise. We know exactly what he's building in there. In the process, though, Honus lost his former bandmates, and possibly a lot more. This big-top ringleader whose barely prophetic ramblings and nauseous yelps we delighted in last time around as mere entertainment now asks us to move closer, listen not to the sounds, but to the songs-- the pleas for help." read the rest of the review

How Many of You Got It On Last Night?

How many of you got it on last night? Think about it, so many people making love at one time. Even some of your parents dusted off and went at it. Here is a song to keep that lovin' feeling going through the day. Look around you, and notice who is glowing.

Concretes Release Dud

Remember that post where we claimed the Concretes were better than Wilco? Of course you don't, we've quietly deleted it. We've put down the crack pipe and took a listen to the new Concretes Album, In Colour. The album will be released March 21st on Astralwerks. The question is, who will buy this dud? The songs sound like cheap sappy remakes of the last record. This is the only track on the record worth keeping. Please take notice Portishead.

FREE ROOSTER TO GOOD HOME

I found a rooster running around last night comming back from the Pretzel Factory. I chased him down and now he's in my apartment. I called animal control but they are useless. He's a copper color and he's pretty pissed off. You can have him for a pet but he'll fight you. Hell you can have him for eating or cock fighting I don't care. The bottom line is someone is going to come and take this thing or i'm letting him go back on the street. This is a serious inquiry as unbelieveable as it sounds.

this is in or around SOUTH PHILLY

Matt Pond's Equipment Stolen in Greenpoint

"Last night following the first show of their tour in New York's Bowery Ballroom, all of the band's equipment was stolen from their trailer as it sat in Greenpoint, Brooklyn overnight."

Looks like Bushwick isn't the only crime Magnet in the area.

Jeff Klein - This Heart is a Pump

Jeff Klein is a drunken musical master. We like these types don't we? Often compared to Ryan Adams, which he hates, he reminds you of your lonely college professor. The girls sleep with him, the boys drink with him, and the parents are oblivious to the whole thing. This track we've chosen to share is a little different than what we're used to from Jeff. Sounds like something that could be on the Garden State 2 soundtrack. You be the judge.

Richard Ashcroft - Keys to the World

Has Mr. Ashcroft gone off on the deep end? Probably. Pitchfork recently blasted this record for cheesy music and poor lyrics. While this is probably true, what they fail to acknowledge is this has always been true for Richard. Urban Hymns made Richard Ashcroff a star, but it did not turn him into John Lennon (which he apparently things he is). The album is enjoyable for fans of the verve that find Ashcroft interesting. How can you fault him, the man is really out there. Here is one of the better tracks on Keys to the World.

The Magnetic Fields - The Dreaming Moon

Released in 1995 on Merge, this is still one of our favorite records. Stephin Merritt's songs are as diverse as they come. Here we get swept away to a lush dreamlike world of Merritt's making. Enjoy the escape...
