Mon.Key.Pod's BAP Performance

Mon.Key.Pod's BAP Performance

While editing the Bushwick Art Project video I found myself playing Mon.Key.Pod's performance repeatedly. This Bushwick Duo infuses beats, hard drums, heavy bass, and a memorizing array of video with great results. Their recorded music is just as well put together as the live performance. Yes, at times I think maybe they need more vocals, but the music is still very strong on it's own. Go to their myspace page to check out "Tokyo Drift" which isn't available for download, but you'll wish it was.

Antony and the Johnsons/CoCo Rosie @ the Warsaw

Just got back from the Ali Forney Center Benefit with Antony and The Johnsons, CoCo Rosie, and Matmos @ the Warsaw. Antony got on stage with each act and sung his part on CoCo Rosie's "Beautiful Boyz" with moving results. We were humming the tune all the way home. Antony's set was a lot fun with lots of stage banter. CoCo Rosie joined him for a new song called "Bouncy Balls", the lyrics were "She's got bouncy balls, He's got Bouncy Balls, I've got Bouncy Balls". Needless to say it got everyone's balls bouncing ?!

INSIDE THE BAPLAB
The Bushwick Art Project endeavors to make Brooklyn beautiful

By Kristopher Monroe

With low-income artistic types getting priced out of Manhattan altogether, and the overblown ostentatiousness of fake artists and trust fund fashionistas crowding Williamsburg, Bushwick is becoming the destination of choice for creatives wanting to get their art on without having to deal with the bullshit. Blogs like Bushwick is Beautiful (bushwickisbeautiful.com) and diversified venues like Office Ops and Asterisk Art Project are helping to foster the very real sense of community in the area.

Mr. President, You Have Sinned

Bushwick Films presents "Iraq is your sin Mr. President"

We make no apologizes for our critical view of the War in Iraq. We are sick and tired of hearing about how people against the war don't support the troops. We care enough about our service men and women that we do not want them in harms way for nothing. Iraq is a big fat nothing. We fucked up, and must now pay the price as a country.

2 New John Lennon Films to be Released

2 New "John Lennon" Films to be Released

This fall two new films dealing with John Lennon's life will hit theaters. One film focuses on his killer M. Chapman (Jared Leto), and the other on his political battle with the US Government and Nixon. If only Lennon was alive now to bitch slap Sean Hanity and Bill Oreilly. The left is in grave need of a leader with some vision and brains. Right now neither side has produced much to get excited about.

The U.S. vs. John Lennon
Release Date: September 15, 2006 (NY, LA; wider release: September 29)
Starring: John Lennon, Yoko Ono
Genre: DocumentaryMPAA
Official Website: TheUSversusJohnLennon.com
Summary: The documentary covers the period 1966-1976 and tells the story of John Lennon's transformation from beloved musical artist to anti-war activist to iconic inspiration for peace, and recounts the story of the U.S. Government's efforts to silence him. The U.S. vs. John Lennon will also show that this was not just an isolated episode in American history, but that the issues and struggles of that era remain relevant today.

Lindsay Lohan and Jared Leto will star in Chapter 27, a feature about the murder of John Lennon. In the movie, Leto will play Lennon's murderer Mark Chapman, while Lohan will play a devoted Lennon fan who befriends Chapman on the weekend in 1980 when he kills the former Beatle. Jarrett Schaefer wrote the project and will make his feature directing debut.Leto most recently appeared in Lord of War. He recently wrapped Lonely Hearts. Lohan can next be seen in Robert Altman's A Prairie Home Companion and the romantic comedy Just My Luck.

Muse - Black Holes and Revelations

Muse - Black Holes and Revelations

Muse are a band that borrows heavily from Coldplay and Radiohead, with a bit more "rock" than either. Their new album Black Holes and Revelations, which is brimming with anti-war rhetoric, is nothing more than a good rock album. This band is nothing new, nothing trend setting like Radiohead, more of a coffee book afterthought of that sound. The band does little to hide from their comparisons as some of the riffs on "Invincible" and "Starlight" sound way too much like Jonny Greenwood. They do however rip off two new bands this time around so give them credit. Track 3 which we have offered here sounds a lot like something Prince released in the 80's and a whole lot like Spoons "I Turn My Camera On". Sing the lyrics to the spoon song over it and see how well it fits. Despite their lack of originality this album is quite a good listen. "Starlight" is a good upbeat track driven by piano and sounds very good at loud volume. "Soldier's Poem" is a softer serious song that rip off or not sounds beautiful. The album strong suit is its lyrics and theme. Every song on here is solid, with no clunkers in the bunch. If you can stomach Coldplay and like Radiohead-lite, this album will get a lof of play on your ipod.

Tracklisting for Black Holes and Revelations
1. Take A Bow
2. Starlight
3. Supermassive Black Hole
4. Map Of The Problematique
5. Soldier's Poem
6. Invincible
7. Assassin
8. Exo Politics

Road Trip

Road Trip USA

It's been a busy July so far. I just got back from a 4000 mile road trip where I visited:

New York
New Jersey
Delaware
Washington DC
Maryland
North Carolina
South Carolina
Alabama
Virginia
Georgia
Mississippi
Oklahoma
Utah
Colorado
Wyoming
Pennsylvania
Ohio
Illinois
Indiana
Kansas
Missouri

There is too much conservative talk radio in this country. You can hear Sean Hanity in every state in the union. This man is pure evil, he wants nothing but to hate and divide.

Cia just finished her new shoot for Suicide Girls. It is absolutely amazing, she is very excited about it, and she should be. Maybe she'll post a little preview on here in the next few days.

We hope to see all of you out at 3rd Ward in Brooklyn for the Bushwick Art Project. This is going to be a very special event.
