About the performers:

ARK
Ark is the artist who first brought the minimal style to many French. As soon as 1997 he issues on the Brif label "Siderurgie esthetique"and "De derriere les fagots", two EPs which were not much of a greatsuccess.. It's logical, Ark is a precursor, always light years aheadof his time.
But he does not loose faith in his craft for that, and collaborates in1999 with Herbert (UK) and Losoul (GER) on "Belle lurette". Everyonegot skeptic listening to this new music and yet, as today Losoul orHerbert have became stars of the genre, they discover the sound ofArk!
His live sets always include stupendous and now famous surprises. Thepublic of the Pulp in Paris won't forget anyime soon his incredibleenergy-fuelled mixes from reggae to hardcore with Mr. Oizo , Feadz orHerbert. He's also been heard at the Rex, the Batofar, the Scene, theNew Casino in Paris or the Panorama Bar from Berlin. When he plays, his hair get moving all around, his body is a prisoner of the beat, hebecomes the most beautiful man in the world... and the mostunforeseeable.

MOSSA
First and foremost a musician with 10 years of classical music underhis belt, Mossa's instrumental background comes to colour hiselectronic compositions. His appetite for deconstruction led himtowards hard-core music, but his passion for jazz and other musicalinfluences always followed him through his musical journey. Afteryears as a DJ, Mossa has ventured into producing , combining his manystyles to create a body of work rhythmically solid and subjective, which is at times minimalist, amusing, and rarely symmetrical. Usingan assortment of plastic and static sounds collected here and there,he arranges an eclectic bouquet of rhythm and kick. He released onlabels like Cynosure, Mo's Ferry, Mutek, Floppy Funk or Orac and hasbeen remixed by supreme producers like Mike Shannon, John Tejada andArk. One of his milesstones is his first long play "Some Eat it Raw"on Circus Company. With his record label Complot, Mossa is alsodedicated to releasing, along with fellow artists, an uncompromisingstyle in house music and minimal techno, bringing an air of freshnessto the Montreal scene.

EZEKIEL HONIG
"Minimalist master Ezekiel Honig takes inspiration for his latest albumScattered Practices not from other producers or even something likefilm, but from French philosopher Michel de Certeau's book The PracticeOf Everyday Life. Manipulating found sounds from the streets, his ownapartment, and other elements of daily existence, Honig crafts histrademark ambient techno in a slightly different, more conceptual shapethis time around.- XLR8R.com

NICHOLAS SAUSER
Sean Smith, aka Nicholas Sauser, has been expanding the sonic horizonof New York's minimal techno scene for the past few years. His deep bass and warped vocal elements combine with a more soulful vibe than his peers. Sean recently performed for a packed crowd at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival and returned to drop a stunning set at DJ Spinoza's weekly Bunker event.

RJ VALEO
RJ Valeo has been crafting refined, dubby electronic music for the past decade, constantly developing his own unique sound. His debut album on Type Records, "September," is a thick, dub soaked percussive machine which amazed audiences with its surprising ingenuity and awe inspiring sound design. Covertly, RJ has recently been molding his unique style into a heady minimal techno form. Fresh from his performance at this year's Mutek in Montreal and BAPLab here in Brooklyn, RJ is ready to make the crowd move with a set of ingenous and danceabledub inspired minimal techno.

DAVID LAST
David's organic dub influenced electronic music releases for The Agriculture have become the best selling records on that label. Funky dancefloor tracks arecoming out with techno labels in the states such as NYC's Goosehound and Microcosm Music (both distributed by Kompakt), and Unfoundsound in Philadelphia. He has been producing remixes for labels in Europe (Staubgold Berlin, Audio NL Rotterdam) and traveling internationally to play his music and live video projections.

LOFT.N.SPACE
http://www.loftnspace.com/
loft.n.space is a concept that was born when a vacant factory loft inbrooklyn has appeared as a perfect spot for a party. ever sinceloft.n.space hosted late night and afterhours events withinternational djs and live acts such as dan bell (tresor), zip & sammydee (perlon), alka_rex (supralinear, resopal), vince lemieux (musiquerisquee), pheek (minus, archipel).

Cold Heat - Heavy Funk Rarities 1968-1974

Cold Heat
Heavy Funk Rarities 1968-1974

I like to imagine what Brooklyn was like to live in in the late 60's and early 70's. In my mind I see poofed out hair from all sexes and races, clothes that defy logic or reason, and hot funk jams steaming from the basements cellars. In my little fantasy Brooklyn world, there really is the soul and substance which we all complain is lacking in today's corporate world. You have to assume that you've missed all the good low key parties and scenes. Just some local musicians getting together in hot rooms and letting it all go. For this feeling I long for, there are a certain section of the record collection that is to be tapped. This outstanding collection of little funk gems from the era I love to imagine, seems to sound better in the cold heat of August in Brooklyn.

This album is a good mix of electronica, hip-hop, and turntables. This is the second LP from Jel, but there are other random tracks out there if you like what you hear.

Little Miss Sunshine

Recommended Summer Film:
Little Miss Sunshine

Saw Little Miss Sunshine yesterday in Union Square. This breaks a string a really boring big budget snorefests. LMS is similar in style to Sideways and Royal Tenenbaums. The film is about an odd family boarding a bus to California for a young girl's beauty pageant. The pageant is called Little Miss Sunshine. The family is held together by this girl who is the very definition of the title. LMS has stolen moments from other movies, like National Lampoon's Vacation, where an older member of the family dies in route. Although we have yet another formula script, at least this film manages to deliver on acting and quality. All the characters are engaging, and the music fits so well even Wes Anderson would be pleased. Several Sufjan Stevens songs make the film, and they fit perfectly. This movie is worth all of the $10.75.

The Yellow Stereo and My Old Kentucky Blog have some good Devotchka MP3s from the soundtrack.

Tobias Froberg - For Elisabeth Wherever You Are

Tobias Froberg - For Elisabeth Wherever You Are

We frequent blogs to find new music to feed our addiction. Yes you silly stupid labels, this actually translates into more sales. The more we hear, the more we need. Where do music junkies go to get their fix? Pitchfork, blogs, myspace, and itunes. The more samples you give us, the more we'll be on your door begging for another dose.
Recently through Music is Art (no surprise) I found a new artist to sink my fangs into. Tobias Froberg is another artist from Sweden that is starting to get around the blog circuit. Take a listen to this MP3 and you'll be hooked.

HotChip - Sexual Chocolate

HotChip - Sexual Chocolate

BiB contributor Cia recently had a photo set rejected for Suicide Girls for perfectly understandable reasons. The only downside was that these great photos would go to waste. So we've come up with an idea using the unused photo's for a music video project to Hot Chip's "Sexual Chocolate". Stay tuned...

Doves - The Last Broadcast

Doves - The Last Broadcast

Released in 2002 The Last Broadcast is one of those records that was good, but never quite broke the band as expected. This band was on the coattails of Oasis, Coldplay, and Radiohead but have been the odd man out to this point. I can't tell if it's the production or the songs being a little light on the creative side. Whatever the reason The Last Broadcast did not quite live up to it's potential, I still find myself coming back to it from time to time. Here are two of my favorite tracks from the record with a bonus non-album cover from the same era.
