I Heart Brooklyn

The I HEART BROOKLYN pass is a creative professional's dream. Not only do members get open access to all facilities, they also get free entry to events, workshops and networking functions. 3rd Ward also offers exhibition opportunities and the one things creative professionals in NY need the most? Access to discount health insurance plans through our partner Fractured Atlas.
Who is this pass for?
This pass is geared towards anyone with creative passion, but it is especially suitable to freelancers and creative professionals who can save big bucks by not subsidizing a private studio.
About the membership...
Members are asked to make a three-month commitment. Members who choose to sign up for a year receive a 10% discount. When you refer a friend for a yearlong membership your next month is free! Get a visible tattoo of the 3rd Ward Logo and receive discount for life!
Sounds Amazing, but how does it work?
Access to the wood/metal shop and digital media lab is always open and there is no need to ever reserve space. For use of the photo, audio and dance Studios and for access to the conference room, members are encouraged to make reservations. Space reservations can be made up to 7 days in advance and are taken on a first come first serve basis. To allow equal opportunity for access to all members, reservations are limited to one booking every 24 hours. If the time you wanted it not available, don't worry, we have a waiting list and will notify you if there are any cancellations. Bookings can be as short as two hours or as long as eight. Walk-ins are always welcomed. There is a 24-hour cancellation policy, and no shows are subject to a $25 penalty.

Bushwick Summer Arts Festival Press Release

Bushwick Summer Arts Festival

Artists, residents shine spotlight on Bushwick
Self-organized event brings together artists, residents, public

Artists and residents of Bushwick are creating the Bushwick Summer Arts Festival and Open Studios to bring to light the hidden aspects of Bushwick. Breaking with the past and taking inspiration from the self-organizing structure of Web 2.0, the event and its planning is open to anyone who wishes to participate. Currently, more than 60 artists and community members are involved in planning and producing the event. The festival is an open and inclusive event that benefits the entire community by sharing artistic projects and encouraging community interaction and dialogue.
Walking or driving through the industrial area of Bushwick, you might miss the hundreds of artists working in the area’s lofts. The Bushwick Summer Arts Festival brings these artists and performers out into the streets and into view of each other, other community residents, and the general public. The community organizers hope to inspire a diverse group of participants, such as local high school students, car art painters, and a variety of musical groups, to share their work in an open, welcoming and inclusive forum. Organizers are working with local businesses, nonprofits, and arts organizations, which may provide venues, create events, or offer funding. Some volunteers are planning interactive activities so artists and attendees can create together.
“I wanted to move the event planning to the community,”said artist Christina deRoos, who helped organize the previous Bushwick Open Studios in September, 2006. “My primary motivation is the process itself. The June 07 event will be amazing, but equally important is what’s happening right now. By coming together to plan a creative event, people are connecting and collaborating, thereby strengthening our community.”
Artists and organizers are available to talk about their plans and process.
Last year, more than 120 artists participated and hundreds more community residents and others attended the event. This year the organizers expect even more participants. New activities this year will include more performances, more outdoor events, and a series of facilitated discussions and panels. The panels will focus on the past, present, and future of the Bushwick community, the role of the arts in Bushwick and other neighborhoods in New York City, and the question of gentrification and sustainability in our community.
The festival is organized by a group of volunteers under the name Arts in Bushwick, and in cooperation with other area nonprofits and businesses. This is the third Bushwick Open Studios event since 2005. For more information about participating artists, a schedule of events, past press, and other topics, please go to www.artsinbushwick.org.

FRANCIS O'SHAUGNESSY (Montreal) & DAVID BOYLAN (NYC)
Both Francis and David use everyday objects in new
ways - using these objects as characters in their
actions, in new (and unusual) projects

They create tableaux that are dynamic, and should not
be missed !

Francis has been invited to travel south, to show us a
unique perspective, which is not easy, or easy to
come by, in our jaded and over saturated existence.

David also uses everyday objects, and his style is
similar to Francis, while incorporating more of our
urban experience.

They work in similar media, but their performances
will be full of knowledge and understanding about
their subjects, that will illuminate and vibrate in a
myriad of different ways.
