With Every Heartbeat

Robyn -
With Every Heartbeat

Part of me wants to be ashamed to like this song, but I can't deny it. I'm walking out of the Robyn closet with open arms singing. Yeah, imagine me singing this at the top of my lungs in the car. No shame here. It's infectious building beat sucks you in like a twisted Tijuana donkey show. Don't look back, just go in....

Celestine - "Hollow" teaser

Celestine - "Hollow" teaser

My wings itch to fly away from here
I press my hands to the earth
and
Pull out the power I need

Thing have been moving along nicely here in Norman. We have a little studio,
and a it's turning out to be a nice space to create in. I'm sitting here looking around it thinking, how did we get here? It's great.
This girl who has been signing for us is really cool. She's got the voice and ideas that match what we've been looking for. The Celestine Project continues...

This is a clip from a song that is in the very rough stages. Have a listen.

Getting Lost in the Rhythm

Getting Lost
in the
Rhythm

Blue States - "Down the Days" MP3
Just picked this new EP up from Blue States. I love the piano led opening build up.
This remind me of Air, Radiohead musically. Or you would be safe saying fans of those bands would like this a lot.

Burial - "Ghost Hardware" MP3 Link Fixed
What is keeping you from buying this record? This album will end of up on our upcoming best of 2007 list. This is downbeat electronic at its soothing best.

Aloha - "Body Buzz" MP3
Gotta love the title alone. The song is led by soft acoustic guitars with hopeful vocals
on top. Listen in the back ground for Kim Deal like backing vocals. Turn those up!

Sea Wolf - "The Cold, The Dark & The Silence" MP3
Another band my label passed on, and now you realize why I thought that was a mistake. While there is nothing groundbreaking here, these guys write songs you
want to hear. For fans of Spoon and Pinback.

Tricky - "Makes Me Wanna Die (Album Version)" MP3
I loved this track enough to buy a hard copy of the CD single. Seriously who does that anymore? This is Tricky at his best, being a trip hop specialist.

New Oldies

Staying with my old band mate and friend of 12 years, we recently discovered a box of stuff we hadn't seen in 10 years. Pictures, clothes (grunge), and some good music. This is the stuff that turned me onto music in the first place. Take a listen to what are fast becoming our generation's oldies.

Rage Against the Machine

Rage Against the Machine: Freedom

Why do I not like the whiny pussy rock of today?

Because it has no balls, no meat,
and no emotion behind it.

You can bring back bands like
Rage Against the Machine and The Smashing Pumpkins(and you have), but it won't be the same. That feeling is gone, and not coming back anytime soon.
We've had the worst president in our lifetime for nearly 7 years now.
Surely this would inspire more people to make good crazy music to rebel their dissatisfaction. Instead we've cecum to talentless "hero" worship,

and Plastic Idol.

There are no more Lollapaloozas or festivals with
any true spirit. It's Metallica brought to you by Spirte and Lays presents U2 and the Frito Lay Pixies. It's Taco Bell using the Beatles in commercials selling their grade D meat. It's Rolling Stones playing in American Airlines Arena brought to you by Dr. Pepper and the Marine Core.
Please someone stop the

Blink 182 clones, and matchbox 20

bland robots.

I can't take it anymore!

Bushwick Essentials: Sibylle Baier

Bushwick Essentials: Sibylle Baier

In the same vein of Nick Drake, we find another hidden folk music gem from the early 70's. The songs were recorded in private for her own personal use, and weren't released until 2006 when her son wanted to share his mothers music with the world. As far as folk music is concerned this album is essential, and succeeds in simple beautiful melancholy.

Class Candy

Glass Candy

Chromatics - "Night Drive" MP3
Chromatics - "Healer" MP3
We liked their first single for its simple catchy hooks. Now two other
tracks have got our attention, and have been in heavy rotation ever since.

Enon - "In this City" MP3
Enon - "Candy" MP3
I was first played this by the band on my college radio show 5 years ago.
They had the song in a computer, locked inside a briefcase.
Sneaky stuff, and then they asked our station manager where to buy pot in town.
We were in Colorado after all...

If you like what you hear, buy the music at Itunes!

Letting Go

Letting it all go.

It's very difficult to do. All the past memories of people failing you,
and you failing yourself.

Drop all your bad memories off to make
space for new ones.

Mazzy Star - "Umbilical" MP3
This song from Among My Swan was always a personal favorite. I like the slow soft radio unfriendly build up. This song puts me in the state I like to be in when I create music myself.
The sparse instrumentation, and moody backing music sets the tone for Hope's perfect lead vocals. Her voice is used to blend in with the other sounds on the song, and not to rise over them. The results are breathtaking....
