Solution for the battle to releasethe Beatles Track "Carnival of Light"
Hailing from the Penny Lane recording sessions in 1967, this unreleased
psychedelic 12 minute jam has laid in the Beatles vaults for 41 years.
Within the Bealtes, there was a democracy, everyone got a veto
vote on all actions. If one of the 4 did not agree, an action would
be affected. This song was vetoed for inclusion on 1967's masterpiece
Sgt. Pepper, and was later vetoed by George Harrison, when
the then 3 surviving Beatles went through every bit of recorded Beatles
material for the Anthology project. Harrison thought that "Carnival of Light"
was too avant guard even for the summer of love. Now that Harrison has
passed away his veto right goes to his wife Olivia Harrison. She
feels torn about letting Paul McCartney, who is pushing for the tracks release,
go ahead and release the song as an official Beatles track because her husband
was not a fan of the track when he was living.
I understand Olivia's point of view, and I can see why McCartney would want
to release this almost mythical unreleased Beatles song that only
a few have heard.
Our solution?
Release the song not for profit, but for charity. Put it on itunes and give
all proceeds to a cause of their choice.
Let's hope Olivia sees this as a reasonable option, because she has
done very well so far representing her late husband George.
